As Mount Pleasant Country Club undergoes a multi-million-dollar renovation, the club has renamed itself The Haven Country Club.
General manager Brian Lynch said the change was made to avoid being confused with Mount Pleasant Golf Club in Lowell and Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton.
“We need better market awareness, especially as we grow,” Lynch said Monday.
Since Regan Remillard purchased the club from its members on Jan. 1, 2012, and Lynch began as general manager the next day, the number of members at the club has soared from 187 to 280. Improvements to the clubhouse, course and parking lot began last fall and most are scheduled to be completed by June, Lynch said.
Lynch said The Haven Country Club was chosen from about 50 names under consideration because members said they thought of the club as a home away from home, a haven.
Mount Pleasant Country Club opened in Leicester and moved to Boylston in the mid-1950s.
